Required Reading: Three Books with Inspiring Design Lessons.

In need of some inspiration, I brought home three new books: Home by Ellen DeGeneres, Simple Matters by Erin Boyle, and Design Sponge at Home by Grace Bonney. These are three very different books, but they all had something to teach me, and I completely gobbled them up in a single afternoon.

Most Wanted: A New House.

We’ve outgrown our house, and we’ve been looking for a new one since May last year, without any luck. The real estate prices here in San Francisco are insane, but even if we were able to disregard the hefty price tags for a minute, we haven’t even been able to find a house we’d like to live in.

Friday Flowers: Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder.

My seven year old son, Cal, came home the other day with a big grin on his face and this lovely bouquet of flowers in his hand. He had picked them on a school trip to the park, and he was very proud. We placed the blooms on a small table in our kitchen, so we all could see and enjoy them.

Seasonal Feast: A Spring Thing Dinner.

Because of travels and a 50th wedding anniversary party(!), we won’t be able to do a proper Easter dinner this year. But we did take the time to get together for a spring themed dinner with a table set in blue and orange. The branches of pussy willows are a Swedish Easter tradition and a must for me.

Happenstance: A Swedish Lady Walked into a Framing Shop

City Picture Frame is one of the best framing shops in town. When I went there the other day, to figure out a frame for an oil painting, I spotted an amazing gallery wall full of (mostly) black and white art. It turned out all the pieces on the wall were made by the same artist, John Mayberry, who has his studio in the building.

A Corner of My Home: Easter is in the House.

Easter is coming up, and the chickens know it. Why else would they lay such colorful eggs? These green, brown, orange and pink ones are the gifts of the Bay Natives hens, and they are as colorful on the inside as they are on the outside.

Most Wanted: Need, Read, Want, Wear

The need/read, want/wear blog classic, nicely sums up what I’m coveting right now. Need: For my dry lips, Aesop’s lip cream is the only thing that works. And packaged in a tube, it’s just a little more fun than the average lip balm. Read: The first book by street-style-queen-blogger, Garance Dore´, is on my nightstand.

On My Mind: Designing with Classics from Knoll

There’s a national Knoll Classics sale starting in a few days (February 20 – March 3), and I’ve been thinking about what it is that makes these pieces so versatile and constantly relevant. Versatile and Relevant Design Classics The Wassily chair, for example, was designed in 1925 (!), but looks completely at home in an interior from 2016.
