Hotel Il Sereno is the first hotel built on Lake Como in several decades, and the Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola has had a hand in everything from architecture and furniture, to staff uniforms and pool design. She even designed the interiors of the hotel boats that shuttle guests across Lake Como.
Every room in the 30-suite hotel has a lake view, and Urquiola was inspired by the colors and materials surrounding the village of Tono, where the hotel is located. She used earth tones with dashes of powdery pink, and soft greens and blues, throughout. And while a lot of the furniture are recognizable from her earlier collections, other pieces have been designed specifically for Il Sereno.
I find it fascinating how a space can affect our behavior and feelings, and this hotel is no exception. Urquiola says she wanted to create an oasis that would give people the same peace and serenity that Lake Como brings. Granted, I have never visited Il Sereno, but when I imagine walking through one of the guest rooms, into a bathroom clad in natural stone, this place not only makes me feel peaceful, it also inspires me to pull together the most sophisticated and true version of myself. Semplicemente perfetto!
